Deck, Fence & Wood Staining in Colorado Springs, CO
Decks, fences, railings, log and natural wood siding stripped, cleaned and re-stained - so the wood is protected, not just recoloured.
What deck and wood staining looks like with us
Brush Masters strips and stains natural wood - decks, fences, railings, stair treads, wood siding and log homes. Wood in Colorado has a hard life: intense sun turns bare boards grey within a season or two, and snow sitting on a deck through the winter works into every crack. A good stain job starts with getting the old, failing finish off and the wood clean and dry, so the new stain soaks in instead of sitting on top and peeling. Realtor clients have used Brush Masters for deck staining alongside interior and exterior painting.
What’s included
Why stain fails early - and how to avoid it
Most peeling, blotchy decks are a preparation problem rather than a product problem:
- Stain applied over an old film-forming finish has nothing to soak into, so it peels with the old coat.
- Grey, sun-damaged wood fibres on the surface need cleaning and brightening off, or the new stain sits on dead wood.
- Wood has to be dry before it is stained. After snow or rain, that can mean waiting a few days.
- Horizontal surfaces - deck boards and stair treads - take far more sun and water than rails, and wear faster.
Stain or paint?
Stain soaks into the wood and lets the grain show; paint forms a film on top. On a deck that people walk on, a penetrating stain is usually the better choice, because a painted deck floor wears through in traffic lanes and is hard to touch up. Railings, trim and stair risers can go either way. Dave will tell you which he would choose for your wood and why at the estimate.
Homes in the pines
Wood-sided and log homes are common in Black Forest, the Tri-Lakes area and up toward Woodland Park. They look their best when the finish is kept up, and they are much easier - and cheaper - to maintain on a regular cycle than to rescue after the wood has gone grey and started to check. If your wood is starting to look dry and silver on the sunny sides, that is the moment to call.
