Why the glue matters
Paint applied over leftover wallpaper adhesive can crack, bubble or peel, sometimes months later. So once the paper is off, the walls are washed until the adhesive is gone, any torn drywall paper is sealed and repaired, and the wall is primed before it is painted. That is the difference between a wall that looks like it was always painted and one that shows the ghost of the old seams.
Surprises behind old wallpaper
Wallpaper sometimes turns out to be hanging on unprimed drywall, over an older layer of paper, or over damage someone covered up. That is not knowable until it comes down. When it happens, Dave stops and talks it through with you before doing extra work - the same way that customer described above.
